The Boundless Bible

QUICK Qs: Favorite Christian Movie or Series

The Boundless Bible Season 1 Episode 47

Ever wondered which Christian movies and TV shows have genuinely transformed people's lives? In this heartfelt conversation, we dive deep into the faith-based entertainment that shaped our spiritual journeys and offered profound insights at critical moments in our lives.

David kicks things off by recommending "Fireproof," a Kirk Cameron film he describes as "life-altering" despite its modest production values. What makes this recommendation special is how it came highly praised from his men's Bible study group as a powerful tool for marriage renewal and spiritual growth. While acknowledging the production limitations common in Christian cinema, David emphasizes that the godly, marriage-focused message transcends these technical constraints.

The conversation takes a particularly moving turn when Javi reveals how "The Bible Series" fundamentally altered his spiritual trajectory. At a time when he wasn't yet a believer but was asking spiritual questions, this visual representation of biblical narratives helped him envision Moses, ancient landscapes, and miraculous events. For Javi, seeing these stories brought to life created an accessible pathway into faith that ultimately led to his conversion – demonstrating how Christian media can serve as powerful entry points for seekers.

Jason's story perhaps hits the most emotional notes as he shares his connection with "I Can Only Imagine." The film's portrayal of abuse, father-son conflict, and athletic dreams deferred mirrors Jason's own life experiences in profound ways. What resonates most deeply is how the movie demonstrates God's redemptive work through painful circumstances, showing Jason he wasn't alone in his struggles and that healing through faith is possible. The episode wraps with nostalgic mentions of VeggieTales and playful banter about which hosts cry during movies (Javi admits he does, while Jason claims his "tear ducts don't work").

David:

Welcome to the Boundless Bible. My name is David Shapiro, hey, I'm Javi Marquez and I'm Jason Holloway.

Jason:

Quick questions with David. Yeah, all right, guys, we have more questions. Good add-on, good add-on.

David:

I like that. That was fun.

Jason:

All right guys question time.

David:

What do you got All right, so this week, what is your favorite Christian movie or show? All right guys Question time. What do you got? All right so this week, what is your favorite?

Jason:

Christian movie or show. All right, I will start because there's a movie that came up in a men's Bible study that I was talking about, that I was in a few months ago, and they mentioned that they had watched this movie and that it was life altering. Okay, so I was like I'm in. All right, you may have heard it. It's called Fireproof. It's a really, really intense, very profound movie. Yeah, I will warn you, the production is not so hot.

Jason:

I mean look, christian movies have a history of not being all that well produced. That's true. You know, you got some new stuff out. That's awesome. Chosen's great, but this is not the greatest production or the greatest acting, but the story itself is life-altering, I mean it's really. It's a beautiful story, it's an intense story, it's a very godly, very god-focused story and it's and it's kirk cameron at his best.

Javi:

Yes, no, it's really great.

Jason:

And if anybody, if anybody is looking for a little, you know, marriage, pick me up, or a renewal of their, of their marriage, or the, even just the way that they look at things. It's a solid movie.

David:

It's a solid movie. I've seen it and it is a good movie.

Javi:

It's solid I would say for me would be the Bible series. Um, that was on Netflix and I, um, I was around 2013, 2000.

Jason:

It was called the Bible series. Yeah, that's what it's called. Yeah, specifically yeah.

Javi:

Yeah, it's called the Bible series and it goes pretty much throughout the Bible. It goes from the Old Testament all the way to Jesus and the crucifixion, and for me it was eye-opening. Right At the time I wasn't a believer and I was asking questions. Yeah, yeah, I was asking questions, I was trying to wonder what's going on, I think. And it came the time netflix was like big right, it was like one of those times I think, wow you just kind of watch everything you've been there might be.

David:

I think it might.

Javi:

It's just yeah, yeah maybe, and to me it was just revolutionary for me it was I was able to see what moses maybe looked like. Right, I was able to put a face to the name, you know. I was able to see the, the landscape of things and how they maybe lived. Um, I was able to see some of the animations of, like, the parting of the Red Sea and all that stuff and I thought that just helped me to really visualize. It was a really easy ramp into the Bible, into the faith, and it's one of my foundations. I think for me that really helped me to become a believer Solid.

David:

For me. There's a movie called I Can Only Imagine. This is about the band mercy, me and them getting together in the lead singer. I will tell you that this um movie has a lot of parallels with my life um, the, the abuse that he took from his father from the beginning, uh, the relationship that they had. Uh, the fact that he lost his football career for me was basketball career uh, there was just a lot of things. When I watched this movie, uh, it just touches me in a certain way. It makes me feel every time I watch it that, um, you know, first of all, I'm not alone that somebody else had gone through. Um, you know some tough times and and through jesus was able to not only pass through that time but have a miraculously ending. You know, I don't want to ruin the ending for everybody here but, it's a great movie and it really is.

David:

You know, you watch God at work and you watch some miracles happening and it is really just a movie that has impacted me in a way that makes me reflect on my life, makes me reflect on my childhood in a really positive way and also a way of man that was tough, but I'm now older and I have God and I'm through it and I can just see things differently. So it's a really great movie. If you have not seen it, I definitely recommend it. That's cool, for real.

Jason:

Yeah, that sounds great.

David:

Did you cry? Yes, often no, if you, that's cool for real. Yeah question did you cry? Yes?

Javi:

often no.

David:

If you know me, you know no, if you know me, you know that the my tear ducts do not work.

Jason:

Yeah, I cry at toll house cookies commercials yeah I'm. No, I'm a big old baby. No, I am not and I'm not ashamed of it at all. Yeah, yeah, I was gonna say veggie tales to all of you 90s. Uh, christian kids know what I'm talking about. You didn't go to a camp where you didn't listen to VeggieTales, watch VeggieTales and know what that was about. I believe mine was Fraggle Rock, awesome, awesome. I mean not Christian, but still solid.

Jason:

All right guys. Thanks for your time. Always enjoy it and we'll talk to you soon, See ya.
